The summit will include keynote talks by leaders of their field, a full program of conference proceedings and the opportunity to workshop real problems with designers and criminologists.

Retail Loss Prevention Seminar

On Tuesday 5 April Designing Out Crime, and it's industry partner City of Sydney, jointly hosted a Retail Loss Prevention Seminar. Small business owners from the Sydney local government area attended the seminar held at the Surry Hills Community Centre.

Research Collaboration Forum

On 24 March 2011 Designing Out Crime hosted its highly successful Research Collaboration Forum. Over 50 academics and researchers from UTS research centres and Faculties including Business, DAB, FASS, FEIT, Law and Science participated.

Safer By Design Bin Launched

The ‘Safer By Design’ bin began as student research project and has become one of the first innovations from the UTS-based Designing Out Crime to be advanced to prototype production.

This new type of rubbish bin is on its way to making public places like train stations, ferry wharves, shopping centres, sporting and entertainment venues much safer and cleaner.

Temperance Lane

When: 16 February 2010, 6–9 pm

Tonight in Sydney's CBD a laneway will be transformed into a pop-up art gallery with more than 20 artists represented using several different mediums.

This project was made possible with funding by the City of Sydney and developed out of the Think St project from 2009's Winter School.

Safer By Design Bin

21 December 2009

As part of the RailCorp customer charter for 2010, a new bin will be trialled at stations. Bins were removed from all rail platforms prior to the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.

Designing Out Crime has collaborated with NSW Police and City Rail to devise a new safer bin which meets all the demands of both parties.

Official Launch – Community & Environment Project

On Friday 8 April 2011 Housing NSW officially launched the Community and Environment Project, involving Housing NSW, Designing Out Crime Research Centre (UTS) and The Social Work Unit (UWS).

Right now there is an exhibition of our recent work in the foyer gallery space of the main tower at the University of Technology, Broadway, Sydney. There is a wealth of information to help you understand the breadth of our work including prototypes, models and audio visuals.

DOC Research Centre Sydney Launch

When: 16 October 2009, 12 noon–2 pm

On Friday 16th October, UTS and the Department of Justice will launch the collaborative Designing Out Crime Research Centre, there will also be an exhibition of the work produced by the centre to date, this will be followed by a lunch.

DOC RC Presents in Perth

Several key members of the Designing Out Crime research centre will be presenting papers at this years International DOC Conference being conducted at Edith Cowan University December 2 - 4 2009.

This iDOC conference series was organised by the DOC in collaboration with academic staff at Curtin University of Technology and Edith Cowan University.

UTS Student Workshop a Success

UTS Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building in conjunction with DOC ran its highly successful inagural Winter School Program in 2009.

With involvement from some 180 final year undergraduate students from many schools within the Faculty, the programme has led to some exciting and positive outcomes.

DOC is developing several designs concepts which saw their genesis in the Winter School.
